T O P I C R E V I E WcarmeloIn 1962 NASA tested a Goodrich G2G suit for Gemini. Of this suit are only a photo and a sketch. In late 1962-early 1963 the G2G was rejected in favour of G2C David Clark suit. Can you find others photos of Astronauts 1 and 2 groups in G2G suit? (P.S. another "phantom suit" is the MA-10 Mercury suit designed for Alan Shepard's MA-10 last Mercury flight, and for short time considered for Gemini flights).Go to "Gemini hardware-Alan Shepard G2G gloves": http://www.spaceracemuseum.com/ Matt THi Carmelo,It seems that the MA-10 suit and the G2G are essentially the same thing - James McBarron's NASA oral history covers this.Gus Grissom took part in a suit review between the Goodrich and David Clark Gemini suits, so there may be photos somewhere of Gus in a G2G. Not an astronaut (at least no one I recognize), not good quality but another G2G photo Cheers,Matt------------------ www.spaceracemuseum.comcarmeloThanks Matt.I think that many Astronauts of first and all of second group had the own G2G in 1962.Matt TIt would be interesting to find out wouldn't it? The only two I've found proof for so far are Shepard and Grissom - Shepard because of the gloves, and Grissom because of the suit review mentioned on Astronautix. Interestingly the Smithsonian has some G2G suits and components, of which only two are labelled for particular astronauts - Shepard and Grissom again.Cheers,Matt------------------ www.spaceracemuseum.comDavid BryantIsn't that John Glenn in the photo?ejectrI believe they each had their own suit. I remember reading in one of the bios of the astronauts (Cernan's I think) that Deke told hime to fly up to David Clark in Worcester, MA and get measured for a suit. When questions like this come up, I wish my cousin who worked for David Clark as a suit tech based at Cape Kennedy with the astronuats for Gemini and Apollo block I was still alive. He could have given us all the right answers to the questions.Matt TDavid - it could be Glenn, the eyes and nose certainly look right.ejectr - the suits we're wondering about aren't the David Clark Gemini suits but a series of B.F.Goodrich prototypes briefly considered for the Gemini missions. It really is a shame that your cousin has passed away, as have many of the people who worked on the M-G-A era suits. Unlike the LM and CSM there are no first hand accounts of the race to build the suits that won the space race.Cheers,Matt------------------ www.spaceracemuseum.comcarmelo quote:Originally posted by Matt T:It would be interesting to find out wouldn't it? No,i dont'think.Could be Deke Slayton (worked on Gemini in early 63),or Tom Stafford,or Frank Borman.P.S. DEAR SANTA CLAUS,I WOULD WANT SEE A G2G SUIT IN A CLEAR PHOTO!Matt TI had a quick chat with Santa (and a long search in NTRS) and found this from NASA SP-18, Bioastronautics. If anyone has a real copy and a scanner I imagine the original photo is much better quality. Happy Christmas Carmelo! Cheers,Matt------------------ www.spaceracemuseum.comcarmeloWow Santa is coming to town!!!!!!! Thanks!carmeloThe Helmet is soft like in G5C suit!
